Organizers are preparing many surprises as part of the V Forum evening programme.

News of the Forum

In 2015 guests of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum will plunge into the festive atmosphere of the anniversary. Organizers are preparing many surprises as part of the V Forum evening programme.

On Wednesday, May 27, the welcome reception will take place. The V St. Petersburg International Legal Forum welcome reception will feature the performance of the famous piano-player Denis Matsuev and the Russian operatic soprano Hibla Gerzmava. The guests of the Forum will see the “Both classics and jazz” programme, a special project of D. Matsuev defined as a “surprise tribute.” In accordance with the creative concept of a surprise, the music pieces intended for performance are kept in secret, and until the last moment the audience knows nothing about the details of the concert.
Hibla and Denis will meet on the one stage not for the first time: in 2014 they took part in the Closing Ceremony of the 22nd Winter Olympics in Sochi. Denis Matsuev has performed Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2, while Hibla Gerzmava has sung the Olympic Valse song that was performed alongside the Children’s Chorus of Russia, conducted by Valery Gergiev.

“I strongly support to the Forum, it has been successful to build up the new front line of the global legal profession and the rule of law”

Akira Kawamura

President, Japan Association of Arbitrators

1. As a permanent contributor, what could you say about the development of the Forum over recent years? What makes you come to the Forum again and again?

As the president of the International Bar Association, I have been traveling extensively throughout the world in these years and attending many conferences of the lawyers. However, I could meet very different group of lawyers at the Forum from those of the other parts of the world. The Forum has been successful to build up the new front line of the global legal profession and the rule of law, which should be the foundations for the diversification and cultural flexibilities of the rule of law. These are the main reasons I strongly support to the Forum.

2. What round tables have you ever taken part in? What discussions do you consider to be the most interesting?

In these years, I had honor to speak to the plenary session together with then President Medvedev (2011), and to take part of the several round table sessions on the topics including the global legal profession and the rule of law as well as the international commercial arbitration. Both of them are very important for me personally and therefore, were very interesting for me. I believe that the cross border legal profession and international commercial arbitration are the most critical agenda for sustainable development of economy in our regions.

3. What are the most crucial legal issues of the present moment to be necessarily discussed at the Forum?

The human rights and business and the climate change and human rights are the recently emerging and crucial agenda for the legal profession. They should be taken up as the topics of discussions in some proper way.
