Global Legal Forum 9 ½: Rule of Corona will be held online on April 10-12, 2020

You are invited to join law scholars, public officials and business lawyers from all over the world for the global discussion of the legal aspects of public life under the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic and development of legal solutions to help combat the consequences.

The agenda includes:

  • Human Rights under Quarantine
  • Quarantine and Civil Law
  • Remedies during Pandemic
  • Remote Employment
  • The Virus’ Information Environment
  • Public Administration and Legislation during Epidemic

The events of the last few months have been an ordeal for the whole of mankind. We set our hopes primarily on healthcare: whether doctors and scientists will succeed in healing the sick and inventing pharmaceuticals and vaccines against the virus. However, the global fight against the coronavirus has also pushed the society's ability to self-organise to the forefront. How meticulously will people observe the regulations introduced by authorities? Will they heed the restrictions that protect other people's life and health? Will contracts be duly fulfilled? Will personal rights and property remain duly protected? It is up to lawyers to provide answers to all of the above.

We believe that the law as a universal social regulator is of vital importance in the fight against the global pandemic. That is why we have decided to hold a special Forum focused exclusively on the legal aspects of the world’s main challenge of nowadays.

The event will retain all the distinctive features of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum, with a constellation of the highest-ranking law experts from all over the world and succinct discussions of breakthrough ideas and the latest trends. However, in line with the requirements of the moment, the event will take place online.

Thanks to the support of Gazprombank, our general partner, and other partners of the Forum, participation in the online forum will be free of charge. At a difficult moment for the entire humanity, we believe it important to engage the widest possible community of high-qualified lawyers in the development of legal solutions to help combat the virus.

Please share this invitation with your colleagues – today, as never before, the global legal community shall join forces to efficiently deal with the issues brought forward by the changing world.

The detailed agenda for LF 9 ½: Rule of Corona will be available soon at the event website. Registration is open.

With all best regards,

On the Postponement of the 10th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum

Dear colleagues and friends,

The legal community, like the whole world, is currently facing a new reality as a result of the global COVID-19 epidemic.

Until now, we hoped that the pandemic would not develop too dramatically, and that global efforts to fight the disease would bring prompt, positive results. However, even the measures that have already been taken to protect people from the pandemic have made the holding of the Forum in its usual format impossible. There is an official ban on public events, national frontiers have almost entirely been closed, international transportation has been disrupted, the usual venue of the Forum is closed to visitors, and participants form many countries are strictly quarantined.

Therefore, we have been forced to postpone the Jubilee 10th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum until May 18-22, 2021.

It has been a hard decision. We were keen to make this Forum really special for all its guests and visitors, and we have put a great deal of effort into making that a reality. However, the safety of the participants in the Forum and St. Petersburg's population at large, and our desire to provide a high quality event for its guests are paramount.
